As one of the versions in the newly launched Collection of Montblanc – Masters of Art Homage to Vincent van Gogh, the most famous painter of the 19th century. This special edition pays tribute to his time in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Auvers-sur-Oise, and bears a striking resemblance to one of his last works – “Tree Root”.
Van Gogh painted this painting from the asylum in Saint-Rémy three times. The same angle, with pencil, reed pen and ink, Montblanc has rendered the colors, extremely well with the AG925 silver cap. The number 1890 next to the word Vincent in blue commemorates the year he painted this last of his paintings.
The body of the pen is crafted from AG925 sterling silver and decorated with lacquer inlays inspired by the design and colours of the painting “Tree Root”, depicting a group of trees exposed by their roots due to erosion on a hillside. Montblanc’s brush knife is subtly featured on the clip, while his passion for smoking a pipe is also reflected in the design, with the top of the clip resembling a pipe bowl and decorated with a yellow citrine.
The way Van Gogh found inspiration in Japanese art demonstrates the universality of art and artistic concepts such as the Golden Cut, or 1.61 (Phi), which not only inspired the Phi symbol embossing on the Au 750 by hand on the gold nib, but is also limited to 161 pieces worldwide.
Van Gogh’s creativity is expressed through the blue lacquered sides on the top of the pen. Immersed in a blue field resembling one of the artist’s shining stars – an image found repeatedly in his works – is the signature Au 750 gold Montblanc logo.
