Scipione Borghese was an Italian Cardinal, art collector and patron of the arts. He was a member of the Borghese family, who were patrons of the painter Caravaggio and the artist Bernini. His legacy was the establishment of the art collection at the Villa Borghese in Rome, which serves as a monument to Roman interior decoration and houses the most lavish and finest collections of Baroque sculpture anywhere in the world.
The barrel of the pen is crafted from solid granite – a material that is extremely hard and durable. The colors of the granite used in this model are black, white and gray, similar to the marble floors at Galeria Borghese.
Baroque influences are also evident on this pen, with Romanesque decoration evident on the butt of the pen. Here, Montblanc has used Carnelian to engrave the portrait of Scipione Borghese. The cap top is reminiscent of a Cardinal's hat.
The clip end features a meticulously cut smoky brown quartz stone. The metal details are coated with ruthenium, the nib is made from solid 18K gold, and is decorated with an intricate engraving of the Scipione Borghese coat of arms.
