In tribute to world-famous author Agatha Christie and her 1934 novel “Murder on the Orient Express,” Montblanc has launched the High Artistry Montblanc Journey on the Orient Express Limited Edition Collection, and the version you see here is a limited edition of just 10 pens worldwide.
The cap and barrel are meticulously crafted from stained sycamore wood, decorated with hand-crafted gold leaf and crystal inlays reminiscent of the opulent interiors of the “Orient” ship, including wood inlays by René Prou and glass and silver inlays by René Lalique. The distinctive push-pull mechanism on the pen is lavishly decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds.
The cap is made of white chalcedony, with a solid gold Montblanc emblem, surrounded by a row of brilliant-cut diamonds. The stone can be opened to reveal a “broken” miniature watch with a white enamel dial, symbolizing time frozen at “01:15,” when the crime occurred.
The cap ring is set with 12 stones, representing the number of times the victim was “murdered”, while the solid Au 750 two-tone gold nib is embossed with the murder weapon, a dagger. The front of the pen is engraved with a floor plan of cabin number 2, where the murder took place. The number “2” also appears on the solid gold tailpiece, decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds and white chalcedony inlays, featuring a screw-wheel mechanism for filling the piston.
