Inspired by many details of Victor Hugo's novel Notre-Dame, the Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Victor Hugo Limited Edition 1831 features the beauty of the ancient cathedral.
The barrel and cap are decorated with gothic arches and a rose on the cap, an homage to the rose window of Notre Dame. The clip at the end is shaped like a bell, reminiscent of Quasimodo the bell-ringer and the bells of Notre Dame. The pen's tail is decorated with a carved triangular frieze, which is also an architectural feature of Notre Dame. The shape of the tail, with a single chain link at the end, recalls the scene where Quasimodo was chained.
The words 'Chaque homme dans sa nuit s'en va vers sa lumière' from Les Contemplations are engraved on the pen tip symbolizing redemption. The pen tip also uses mother-of-pearl material to represent the Montblanc symbol instead of plastic like other versions.
