Ramses II is a pen line that is highly appreciated by Montblanc collectors not only for its beauty but also for the rarity of the special material used to make it. The pen cap is crafted from Lapis Lazuli stone, the pen body is completely crafted from Ag925 silver plated with 23.5 ct gold.
Lapis lazuli is a gemstone that has been prized since ancient times for its vibrant color. Lapis was highly prized by the Indus Valley Civilization (3300-1900 BC). Lapis beads have been found in Neolithic burial sites in Mehrgarh, the Caucasus, and even from Afghanistan to Mauritania. It was used in the mask of Tutankhamun (1341-1323 BC).
During the late Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into a powder and made into a deep blue pigment, making it the highest quality and most expensive blue pigment. Lapis lazuli was used by a number of famous Renaissance and Baroque painters, including Masaccio, Perugino, Titian and Vermeer, and was often reserved for the clothing of the main figures in their paintings, especially the Virgin Mary.
The pen you see in the picture was acquired from the collection of an American Montblanc collector, it is stored in its original form. This is a must have pen if you are a Montblanc fan.
