The golden bee motif on the dark blue lacquer background is inspired by Napoleon’s throne at Fontainebleau, and the sword-shaped clip bears Napoleon’s “N”. The engravings on the pen’s tip – a laurel wreath, a crown and an eagle – refer to Napoleon’s coronation insignia.

The cap also features the Montblanc emblem in precious resin. The end of the clip is decorated with a red stone reminiscent of the coronation ring of Napoleon's wife, Joséphine.
