Moctezuma I ascended to the throne of the great Aztec Empire in 1440, ushering in the Golden Age of the Aztecs. During his reign, he shaped the Aztec Empire we know today – an empire rich in culture and mythology.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Homage to Moctezuma I Limited Edition 4810 is a version with Champagne gold-plated metal details to honor the supreme gods of this special culture.
The overall design of this pen is inspired by the “atlatl”, an Aztec spear-throwing tool. With the shape of the pen’s tail designed to look like it was struck with a hammer, the tail of the pen is based on the Aztec sacrificial knife, which usually has a blade made of obsidian.
The pen body consists of two parts, both lacquered in two colors: carmine red and petrol blue – inspired by the royal robes of the Aztecs. The two hieroglyphs on the cap represent the years of Moctezuma I’s reign.
The handcrafted 18K solid gold nib is adorned with an intricate engraving inspired by the Aztec iconography of the city of Tenochtitlán: a three-branched cactus with a royal crown and two scrolls.
